The ancient site of the Fortress of Râșnov is situated in Brașov county, Râșnov area in Romania. The site is very interesting, mainly because of its position on the top of a hill. From this vantage point, you have the nicest views of the mountains that surround it.
This place was built with the intention of defending the Transylvanian Villages from invaders. A decisive aspect for building the citadel on this actual location was the route of the invading armies which were coming from the Bran pass. Bran is the area in which you will find the castle most associated with Dracula.
The medieval citadel is thought to have been built between 1211 and 1225, during the rule of Teutonic Knights in Burzenland, although there is no evidence in this respect. This place is really interesting, and you should pay a visit. It’s right on a top of hill. You can walk all the way up, or take a little train.
Visitors are free to stroll between sturdy watchtowers, browse medieval-themed souvenir and craft stalls, and admire views of the rolling hills from the fortress’ highest point. A visit to this Medieval Citadel can be easily done in a day. I visited Bran Castle first (see my previous post), and on the way back I stopped over here.
Romania is such a beautiful place to visit. It has many beautiful castles, and citadels. I would never have imagined I would contemplate such wonderful views. You will be surprised at how much this country has to over. You won’t know until you visit!
Wonderful photos 🙂

I know someone from Romania. She’s a huge Bach fan; does volunteer work for the Oregon Bach Festival. Gave me a ride home yesterday. Also, on Christmas Eve, a young woman from Croatia showed up. Our keyboardist is Brazilian. We have an African man and a Hawaiian with real accents. Church, similarly to the music profession, brings together such otherwise motley people… Great pics of the architecture. Keep it up! BTW, is there such a thing as moderator on this site? You’d be a great choice for it, IMHO.
