One attraction that must be visited when in Bogota is the Mount of Monserrate. The views are truly spectacular from there. Monserrate is a mountain that dominates the city centre of Bogotá, the capital city of Colombia. It rises to 3,152 metres above sea level, where there is a church with a shrine, devoted to El Señor Caído.
You can take the funicular, or the cable car, or even walk all the way up there. It is well worth it for the views. It is very green up there, with lots of birds. I didn’t walk all the way up because I had a little altitude sickness.
The hill, already considered sacred in pre-Columbian times when the area was inhabited by the indigenous Muisca, is a pilgrim destination, as well as a major tourist attraction. In addition to the church, the summit contains restaurants, cafeteria, souvenir shops and many smaller tourist facilities.
The day I visited Monserate was the election day in Colombia so many of the tourist sites were closed. I decided to go up the hill and I had no regrets. It was one of the best days I spent in Bogota.
Monserate is a great place to visit if you’re around this interesting part of the world. At this place for more than four centuries, pilgrims and citizens have hiked the mountain to offer their prayers to the shrine of “El Señor Caido”.
Beautiful and what a beauty nature have

Wow, this looks incredible! I very nearly took a day trip there while in Salou but went to Barcelona and didn’t have the energy for another day trip – need more time to explore such wonderful places. Great photos, too! x

Nice pictures it looks like very pastoral countryside. It would be the perfect place to paint up there. Over 3000 meters. Did you notice the thinner air up there, I’m sure the locals are accustomed to it…..

Yes, I did. I found a bit of altitude sickness, but it was worth it! Thanks for stopping by.

Oh, I enjoyed this … South America is so beautiful, and I was with a tour group so there was no language barrier. You are so lucky to be traveling to all these venues … I am envious as I used to travel when I was younger – hopefully again some day.
