Wilderness Paradise in Northeast Brazil

My recent trip to Brazil was a bit last minute. I couldn’t get on the flight, and a two week holiday turned into a few days in Lisbon, and a week in the northeast of Brazil.

It was quite an interesting time to be there. August is winter in Brazil, but in the northeast the temperatures are an average of 25c all year round. You can get a little rain, but it’s always warm over there.

Cabedelo is a municipality in the state of Paraíba in the Northeast of Brazil. It is a piece of land that juts out into the sea. One side is the Atlantic Ocean, and the other is the River Paraíba. On the river side you can visit Jacaré Beach, famous for its sunset and a saxophonist who plays Ravel’s Bolero timed to coincide perfectly with the fading light. It quite a interesting experience, and he does it every night – he’s currently played it more than three thousand times!

Just a few miles away from Cabedelo, a short ride on the ferry over the River Paraíba you are going to end up in Lucena. It is a small rustic town with amazing wild beaches. I did a very interesting tour.

I passed this beautiful seaside. We were driving really close to the sea.

During the tour, I passed many beautiful places. I came across a massive plantation of palm trees, which apparently is the biggest in the Northeast.

During the tour, we had walk through a swamp to visit the ruins of a church in a remote spot in the middle of nowhere!

The tour guide was pretending in the video that he was opening the path for us to cross.

This church was built here many years ago. People used to live around the area during the period of Portuguese colonisation. It is a very interesting place, and quite spooky as well. Some of the structure is held up by a massive tree that has mysteriously grown on both sides of the wall.

On the way back, I stopped in a little restaurant for a coconut water.

This place is very unspoiled. It feels like you are in the middle of nowhere.

I had an amazing time there, and it just so happened that it was the anniversary of the city of João Pessoa, which is the capital of the state of Paraíba . I will be talking more about that in my next blog.
