Head to Beachy Head!

Beachy Head are the highest chalk cliff headlands in the United Kingdom. The spectacular cliff tops of Beachy Head are a must see for all visitors to Eastbourne and the South Downs. Walk up from the western end of Eastbourne seafront or cycle from the start of the South Downs Way.

The iconic Beachy Head lighthouse is very impressive. Beachy Head Lighthouse was built in the sea below Beachy Head. It is 43 m (141 ft) in height and became operational in October 1902.

Despite being a beautiful place with stunning views, there is a sad story associated with these cliffs. Many people have committed suicide by jumping off the cliffs.

I was very lucky to have the opportunity to come and visit one of my best friends Madeleine, and she took me to these amazing cliffs. It was a very cold and windy day, but beautiful. On the way back, we passed some stunning English countryside.

I had a very interesting  day visiting friends, and exploring the English Sussex coast.

  2. Spectacular indeed – I agree with the previous subscriber. I am envious of your travels, though I did travel by bus on a day trip to Dover to see the White Cliffs of Dover when I visited England with my parents in 1979. I have to catch up on all your posts – I am behind due to the Thanksgiving holiday short work week and pressing items at work for my boss’ impending vacation.

      1. I did travel a lot in the 70s and 80s, but have not for awhile, and it is really a coincidence that most of the places you have featured lately are places where I have visited. We spent a week in London in May and took a few day trips – that week was picture-perfect, not a drop of rain. My boss left for Phoenix, AZ for a client’s wedding at week’s end, then off to South Africa at the end of the month for two weeks. I will enjoy his and your travels vicariously for now. 🙂

Well, I must admit I would have felt safer back then – there was not so much unrest in the world in that era, but there is so much to see out there … at age 61, I hope to have many more years to explore the world. I am a Canadian citizen, living here in the U.S. since 1966 – I’ve actually seen more of the U.S. and abroad than my homeland and one day I would like to venture into more of Canada as well. I’ve only been through Ontario and that was when I was young.

      7. That sounds like a beautiful trip … I had an uncle who moved to Victoria and opened up an antiques shop there. The pictures from Victoria were so beautiful. So much to see – so little time.

    All of them are beautiful. But I thought the Cliff Edge signpost was the name of the cliff for an actual second 🙂

  11. You do indeed get to see many beautiful and fascinating places. The photos are wonderful and those cliffs amazing. I have been visiting there and felt very drawn to the area.
    It seems to have been a rather windy day.😊
