The National Elephant Conservation Centre, Kuala Gandah, Pahang, is an elephant sanctuary close to Kuala Lumpur. The only one of its kind in Malaysia, the team is dedicated to locating, subduing and then relocating problem elephants from areas where their habitats are being encroached on by development.
The elephants are then relocated to safer habitats including Taman Negara National Park. Over the past 30 years, this team has helped to resolve human-elephants conflicts and minimised the economic losses caused by such conflicts by relocating more than 700 wild elephants.
I was quite impressed with the elephants, and also sad to see these poor animals having to be relocated because of humans greed and taking away their territory.
Some of these elephants are also orphans, and they have all been given names in the sanctuary. They all have little stories about how they were found and rescued.
The centre houses a number of trained elephants to help with the relocation of wild elephants from the conflict areas throughout the Malaysian Peninsular.
The centre is quite far from Kuala Lumpur, so if you plan to visit you will need a day to go there.
It’s so sad that we need a place like this. But, what wonderful work they do! I’m happy there are those who care about such amazing animals. What s lovely place to visit. Thank you 😊

The sane is done with many wild animals, especially with grizzly bears, here in Canada. The problem is also the same. The natural habitat of so many wild animals is becoming smaller and smaller. Black bears are a real problem, as they are coming into our towns in search for food. Thank you for your outstanding post on what the authorities are doing with ‘misbehaving’ elephants!

Although I’m scared to go near elephants I like them a lot. They are intelligent & affectionate. It is really sad that their habitats are being encroached.

😁Thank you. Hope so, but actually I wasn’t just saying for the sake of adventure but because here in Kenya we’re going through tough times with all this politics and I will give anything to get away from it. But I know it will be alright.

I am supposed to do the 7 day picture challenge that scares me more than writing a personal blog or a guest blog. I can’t seem to click great pics or any pic. So I am envious of those who can… Sighhhh
